Is being transgender (gender dysphoria) still considered a mental disorder?

The latest edition of DSM (Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders) does list gender dysphoria, but, unlike previous editions, it calls it “dysphoria” and not “gender identity disorder.” I won’t get into too much detail, but the change of terminology indicates a shift in the way psychiatrists thing about transgender people. In a nutshell, they do not necessarily classify gender dysphoria as something pathological (an illness) as long as it does not cause distress (depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety disorder, etc). So, there’s progress, definitely.
