I struggle with buying female clothing

Questions

I am a 32yo mtf who has been having difficulties buying female clothes for myself for years. I have overcome many issues but this one is so hard for me for some reason. I don’t know why. Whenever I have to enter a store and the ladies department and talk to the shop girls and ask for a size, I feel like everyone is staring at me and laughing at me or is disgusted by me. I know it’s all in my head but sometimes I just freeze. I buy most stuff online but a lot of it doesn’t fit well. I just want to be able to go in a store and buy some skirts and sweaters…

  1. You need a shopping buddy! Someone you trust, perhaps a relative or a close friend. Someone to distract you from your concerns, which, as you said, are all in your head, I’m sure.

  2. Don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed! You are a woman, goddamn it! Be proud of it! Walk into a store with your head up high, in your best get-up, walk in there and act like you own the place. Fake your confidence at first, if you have to, but then you’ll see it will start coming to you naturally. It may take practice but you’ll get there.

  3. omg I know just how you feel!! I don’t have issues with shops and stuff, but sometimes I dread going to a hair salon or getting a mani and padi.

  4. It’s just clothes…and those people aren’t really looking at you or judging you, you know. Get over it.
